From Showroom to Jewellery Shop – We’re Moving!

Brand New Shop

ur new location will be far more accessible for island couples and visitors to the Isle of Wight

From Humble Beginnings – the Lean Startup

Over the last 11 years, Serendipity Diamonds has grown from a self funded start-up jeweller— selling mainly online, to a fully fledged jewellery showroom in the heart of Ryde on the Isle of Wight. Unlike many other businesses, we were about as lean as you could be. Our emphasis was on service and creating the best jewellery for life’s meaningful occasions. We’ve never once deviated from this, but I like to think we’ve enriched our work with an emphasis on responsible sourcing. But that’s another topic for another day…

For those of you who have visited us, you will no doubt agree that our premises in George Street have served us very well since 2010. Our beautiful showroom, located in a listed Georgian building has been at the heart of our business. From here we have sent meaningful jewellery across the World. To be honest, relatively few of our clients live close enough to visit our showroom.

From our current location, we have grown from a team of 1—yes, just me—to a team of 4 great people. Our aim was always to keep our company small, to grow slowly and to keep the small, personal, friendly service experienced by our clients.

Why re-locate Serendipity Diamonds?

There are several reasons for our move. In recent years, our presence on the Isle of Wight has grown. We help many more local couples these days, with engagement rings and wedding rings in addition to providing many other types of jewellery. We are busy most days serving clients from the island, in addition to our clients in across the water.

Our existing showroom, although centrally located, lacks the accessibility of a traditional shop.

Earlier this year, we decided to open our first retail store, choosing to remain on the Isle of Wight where we have been located since the company began in 2007.

Time to Get Organised

Over the last few months, we have been busy organising our move. Despite our re-location—really just a stone’s throw away, there is so much to consider. Like many new ventures, the move is both daunting and exciting. There is so much to be done in addition to our everyday work.

Over the coming weeks, I hope to blog a little more about the progress of this new venture and the first official Serendipity Diamonds shop. Hopefully, this will be of interest to both clients and to other jewellers thinking of setting up shop. If you notice less on the blog at the moment, it is likely owing to the sheer amount of additional work setting things up over the next few weeks. It would, however, be a shame not to post a few progress reports as we steer towards our new location on the High Street. Our next step will be the addition of a temporary cover for the window while work goes on inside.
