For those who are unfamiliar with this part of an engagement ring, the shoulders lie below the diamond and rise to meet the setting from the mid-way section of the band itself. There are so many shoulder styles available, from straight shoulders, to flared shoulders, split shoulders, diamond set shoulders, and tapered shoulders to name but a few. But why do narrow shoulders make sense.

When narrow shoulders make good sense

Narrow ring shoulders are perfect to highlight the size of small to medium-sized diamonds. Here we refer to diamonds between 0.25cts and 0.50cts (a quarter to half a carat in size.) For reference, the mm. size will be 3.5 – 4.5mm respectively.Very slim shoulders will contrast in width to the size of the diamond. You will see less metal and more diamond. The eye will be drawn into the diamond, rather than towards heavy shoulders.

Are there any more advantages?

A further advantage to a narrow or fine band, relates to the weight of the ring mount. The price of the ring mount itself is mostly determined by the weight of the metal. There are other factors involved, but the cost of lighter ring mount, and a heavy ring mount will affect the finished price of the ring. Choosing a lighter ring design will enable more of your budget to go into the diamond itself.

Examples

The best example we can currently provide, is sold subject to limited availability. Offer 82 includes a visibly clear diamond, (eye clean) set into a slim band, with a full half carat Princess cut diamond. We keep this particular offer below £900, and runs until we are limited by availability of the diamond itself.

For further advice and information contact us at any time.

Advantages to an engagement ring with slim shoulders Wide shoulders or narrow shoulders?
