What makes Fairtrade Gold Engagement Rings and Wedding Rings different?

Fairtrade Gold comes from ethical Fairtrade certified mines. Fairtrade Gold makes a responsible choice for jewellery that benefits the lives of small-scale artisanal miners and their communities. Fairtrade communities work towards positive changes in health and safety, education, infrastructure, the environment and Women's rights.

How to order a Fairtrade Gold Engagement Ring or Wedding Ring

To order your Engagement Ring or Wedding Ring in Fairtrade Gold, look for the options on our online drop-down menu. These appear on all product pages.

Jewellery available in Fairtrade Gold features in the option in our main menu. Or, contact us for a quote on any other item.

We create Fairtrade Gold diamond rings, pendants, earrings, ring mounts and settings. All can be in ethically sourced Fairtrade Gold.

More about Gold from Fairtrade Mines

All pit miners must be over the age of 18 and cannot work more than 8 hours a day.  A percentage of the profits go back into the mine and the local community.

Gold miners have union representatives from different areas of the mine. These representatives work with the mine owner in order to make changes and improvements in the mine and local communities.

Methods are used in the mining process to eliminate the use of toxic chemicals. Such as mercury and cyanide which can have detrimental affects on the health of miners and the environment. Which therefore makes improved working conditions for these miners.

Fully traceable Gold

Fairtrade Gold is audited in line with criteria set out by Fairtrade International (FLO.) This in return enables artisanal and small-scale miners to improve their livelihoods. As a result, retailers and consumers benefit from assurances of miners getting a fair deal for their work.

Under the Fairtrade system, communities of small-scale miners conform to specific standards. They receive a fair price for artisanal gold, plus a premium per kilo that goes towards building their community.

Fairtrade Gold offers buyers reassurance about the gold used to create their precious Engagement Ring or Wedding Rings. Clients know their gold is sourced in a way that gives back to small mining communities. In addition, it is 100% traceable with solid ethical assurances.

Look for the Fairtrade Gold Stamp

All Engagement Rings and Wedding Rings created at Serendipity Diamonds feature the Fairtrade logo, stamped within the ring.

This appears as a stamp or laser hallmarked within the item. An example can be seen below. This provides the reassurance that the gold within the ring has been sourced from a Fairtrade mine. Additionally, it can be tracked from the mine to the final finished piece of jewellery.

Fairtrade Gold - White Gold vs Yellow Gold

Fairtrade Gold used in 18ct Gold Engagement Rings includes precious metal alloys. The gold content itself is 100% ethically sourced. Most of the Palladium, Copper and Rhodium applied to Fairtrade Gold tend to originate from recycled sources. In addition, remember that we can supply Fairtrade Gold Engagement and Wedding Rings in White or Yellow Gold.

Why do we favour Fairtrade Gold for Engagement Rings and Wedding Rings?

We believe the sentimental value crafted in Fairtrade Gold increases due to the Fairtrade Gold content. Besides material value, there is a deeper meaning when an item is responsibly sourced with consideration for the miners themselves.

Buying a Fairtrade Gold Ring Mount or Setting

We are happy to craft a Fairtrade Gold ring mount or setting if you have your own diamond. This service is also offered to jewellery retailers who wish to purchase one of our designs. The majority of our ring designs can be purchased as empty ring mounts. Where we are usually able to set your diamond or gemstone into the finished ring if you need this service.

Look for the 'Mount Only' option on our jewellery pages and select mount only to place your order.

Fairtrade Platinum and Palladium

There is currently no Fairtrade Platinum or Palladium mined. However, all of our Platinum and Palladium come from recycled sources. This ensures that we abide by 100% ethical standards for our precious metal options.

In addition, we are now able to re-make items with a client's own precious metal. Please note, this service may work out to be a more expensive option. This is owing to the individual attention to a client's metal and separation from our regular precious metals. Contact us for more help and guidance on this service.
