How to clean a Platinum engagement ring at home

For anyone wondering how to clean a Platinum diamond ring, today’s post helps you to restore a Platinum ring to its former glory. Cleaning Platinum can be done professionally or at home. Due to everyday wear, most Platinum rings need a little tender loving care from time to time. Our post today offers a little help to return the dazzle and shine back to your diamond engagement ring.

Professional cleaning for diamond rings

When you take your diamond ring to a jeweller for cleaning, you will almost certainly receive a thorough service. Most jewellers deep-clean (via ultrasonic) before re-polishing Platinum to remove scratches from the ring’s surface. There is no better way to re-create the as-new condition seen in the first days of wear. Not everyone has the opportunity to have their ring re-polished by a jeweller. As a result, many people look for a home solution as a way to clean their diamond ring.

Cleaning Platinum and Diamonds in the home

Previously, we looked at the effects of scratches upon Platinum. Small scratches build to reduce the shine and polish of the ring. As a result, the metal becomes dull, with a reduced shine. Furthermore, Platinum rarely tarnishes. Tarnish or Patina appears on Antique Platinum jewellery after many years of exposure to the air.

Many jewellery advice columns suggest home remedies—liquids and detergents from the home for basic jewellery cleaning. While such remedies can remove dirt and grime, they rarely improve the appearance of the metal.

For many months, we tried and tested so many of the home remedies suggested. Finally, it was our good fortune to receive a range of inexpensive jewellery cleaning products that were entirely suited to cleaning Platinum and diamonds at home.

Over the space of a week, at home, and with clients in our showroom, we tested the Connoisseur range of jewellery cleaning products. As a result, we were incredibly surprised at the results. With minimum effort, we finally had a jewellery cleaner to endorse. Furthermore, the range achieved near-professional results. Cleaning a ring at home has never been easier.

Polishing a Platinum diamond ring or wedding ring

Recommended product – Connoisseur Beauty Wipes.

Cleaning Platinum has never been easier - Connoisseur Beauty Wipes for engagement rings and diamond rings

How to use? – Each box contains 25 dry wipes. The case reminds me of the shape of a hip-flask. As a result, it fits easily into a bag, without taking up space. Each wipe is easily removed and large enough to wrap around a ring. Lightly rub the surface of your Platinum engagement ring. Notice just how much black tarnish appears on the cloth. The gentle dry compound removes tarnish and fills scratches to restore Platinum to a gleaming shine.

Bonus point – Unlike many other products, dry wipes are dry. Leave the box open and they never go off. Furthermore, wipes can be re-used many times.

Where to buy? Find the Connoisseur Platinum and jewellery wipes online in our shop section. Cost £8.00. Ship to UK and overseas. Just select your country next to price.

Cleaning your diamond at home

Fact! – Diamonds naturally attract grease and dirt. They can quickly lose their sparkle when natural oils, dust and dirt adhere to the diamond. This is especially relevant on the underside of your diamond where the ring sits close to the finger.

Recommended product – Connoisseur DazzleStik.

Cleaning diamonds at home with the Dazzlestik

How to use? – Remove the plastic seal. Remove the cap. Dip the soft brush in a cup of water. Twist the silver cap until the blue solution appears on the brush. Clean the top, sides and bottom of your diamond. The solution will work into a lather and the soft brush will reach into the back of most diamond settings. The Dazzles Stik solution will also clean Platinum at the same time. Finally, rinse in a cup of clean water and use a dry cloth. Lastly, place the ring back on the finger and admire the sparkle again.

Bonus point – The Dazzle Stik fits neatly in a handbag, making it perfect for carrying away on weekend trips to ensure jewellery remains dazzling.

Where to buy? Find the Dazzle Stik on our shop section, costing £9.49. Available for delivery to the UK and overseas. Choose your currency at the checkout.
