Bespoke designs in Fairtrade Gold
Many of our bespoke commissions are diamond rings custom made in Fairtrade Gold. This wonderful metal choice (available in white or yellow alloys) remains unknown to a large majority of jewellery buyers. Each Fairtrade Gold commission is hallmarked as standard gold, but features the Fairtrade logo stamped within the ring as shown in the image below.
What is Fairtrade Gold
Fairtrade gold, unlike regular gold has been mined by artisanal miners working within Fairtrade certified mines. They receive a fair price for their gold along with a premium per kilo. Fairtrade Gold is fully traceable and remains separate to all other gold and precious metals through its journey from the mine through the workshop—until reaching the consumer. You can read more on our dedicated information page on Fairtrade Gold.
Wherever possible we choose to work with Fairtrade Gold. We are amongst a growing movement of individuals—all aware of the positive impact Fairtrade Gold has upon small scale artisanal miners at the very start of the supply chain.
Sketch and commission outline
After speaking with our returning client, detailed notes were taken. These notes included specific requirements—styling details requested. Descriptions are useful but a sketch is far easier to work from. As a jeweller, it is very important to ensure that we have captured the essence of the commission. Here you can see certain details such as the reverse-tapered shoulder noted on the sketch.
Throughout each commission, we exchange many emails to answer questions, working towards the design stage. This is particularly useful for international clients working in alternative time zones. For many commission types, we create CAD drawings with alternative views.
Choosing your diamond
Choosing your diamond is another important part of your commission. We work with many suppliers around the World enabling us to offer most diamond sizes, shapes colours and clarities. Before modelling any commission we source the diamond to ensure a perfect fit within the design created. This particular design featured a GIA certified 0.80cts oval brilliant cut diamond graded G colour and VS1 clarity.
Traceability for your diamond – a further option
A further option, beyond certification is to know where your stone came out of the ground. We are specialists in responsibly sourced diamonds and we are UK suppliers for CanadaMark diamonds, responsibly sourced, and fully traceable back to the Canadian mine of origin. Whilst not essential (diamonds are credited as conflict free) traceable diamonds are a step further towards giving the buyer more in-depth information about their origin.
