Taking the Bespoke Route

Many of the commissions undertaken at Serendipity Diamonds take the form of custom-made or bespoke designs. There are too many reasons why people choose the bespoke route to discuss here, so we will limit this to one type of jewellery item. The shaped wedding ring. We have covered this topic in the main information pages of the website, showing some of the recent commissions undertaken.

Do I Need a Shaped Wedding Ring?

A shaped wedding ring might sound like a good idea, but think first of all if you really need one. We (or your jeweller) can advise on this if you are in any doubt. It is pointless going to the cost of commissioning a shaped ring if this is not necessary. The easiest way to confirm this is by sending across a photograph of your engagement ring. By looking at the setting of the engagement ring we can see if the design allows for a straight plain style of wedding ring.

Details to Consider

We can advise on alternatives for the design itself. You should ideally consider details such as whether you want diamonds. The simplest approach is a plain band without any diamonds. This is also a little less costly. If your engagement ring differs on each side of the setting, (as some asymmetrical rings do) then think about which side you would like your wedding ring to sit. This itself can result in quite radically different ring styles.

First Steps

The process of commissioning a shaped wedding ring is fairly simple and does not need to cause any more stress than you already have (organising the wedding day.) Seek some good advice, and be ready to allow time for production of the ring. Don’t just think of the time to make the ring. If you are corresponding by email, or phone, or journeying to the jeweller to discuss work, this might take a little time to ensure both of you are on the same page.

Budget

Be realistic about the budget. When you have each element of your wedding listed, you will no doubt work out a basic idea of cost for the big day. Ensure you have applied a realistic cost for your wedding rings. Along with photographs and memories of your great day, the wedding rings are a significant item that will stay with you for your married life.
