How Do You Find the Correct Ring Size at Home?

We have a solution to a problem that many of you face when it comes to buying either an engagement ring or a wedding ring: How to find the correct finger size at home, to ensure a perfect fit.

Both men and women worry about buying the wrong size. It’s particularly important when you consider many ring designs can’t actually be resized.

For example, full eternity bands with diamonds all the way around the ring. Ideally, we like to check finger sizes in person here in our showroom, but, not everyone has the time to visit us.

As a result, for many of our online clients, we created a system to find the correct finger size—available for use in the comfort of your own home.

So, how does it work?

We’ve created the “Perfect Size Service”, which we’ve also added to the Serendipity Diamonds website.

First, we send out a Multisizer tool. Basically, it’s a plastic strap with UK ring sizes and resembles a cable tie.

Now, this multisizer, on its own, is a good tool to give you an estimate of the finger size but it can be tricky to get a precise reading because the strap moves around when you slide it on and off the finger.

The strap goes around the base of the finger to give you an idea of the finger size. Don’t slide it over the knuckle because the reading will change. Instead, put it around the fleshy part of the finger and attach it where you would normally wear a ring.

Approximate your size, and then use the size sample rings.

With the Multisizer, you can get an approximate size.

And next, we post out ring samples in the closest sizes. We provide simple, precision-engineered aluminium bands created in half-finger sizes.

To clarify, if the Multisizer gives you a size S as your finger size, we’ll send out R1/2, S and S1/2 ring sizes to try.

We have three different widths available for this service – 2.5mm (perfect for engagement rings) 5mm, and 7mm.

So you try these after you’ve used the Multisizer to be confident you’ve established the correct finger size.

But how do you ensure the ring fits correctly?

Well, my advice is to choose a size that goes onto the finger and sits without moving around or spinning on the finger. You want the ring to be snug and difficult to remove and only removable by stretching the hand to take the ring off. Otherwise, you’ll risk losing your ring, for example, when your hands are either cold or wet.

Once you have a good idea of the correct size, just send the sample rings back to us in the pre-paid envelope.

We’ll refund the cost of the size service from your final order.

For international clients in locations such as the USA, just send the rings back by any tracked postal service and then email us a copy of your receipt for the postage and we’ll refund the cost of the return delivery.

A note on alternative ‘online’ ring sizing techniques.

On a final note, there are so many videos giving advice on ring size techniques.

Many involve tying pieces of string around the finger, or strips of paper or cutting out circular templates…….the list goes on.

While many of these solutions may help you estimate ring size, they will not guarantee you an accurate ring size.
