Heart-Shaped Engagement Rings – Romantic Styling

An exploration of the heart-cut diamond ring

If you’re a big fan of heart-shaped engagement rings, there are two clear choices. Include the heart-shaped styling into the diamond, or include this within the setting. (Or both if you wish to go all-out!)

Altogether, the heart-shaped cut diamond ring makes an impressive stand in most jewellery collections.

In fact, when it comes to the heart-shaped diamond, we find an equal response. Half of the population adores the heart shape. Conversely, equal numbers do not.

Most Romantic Engagement Ring Designs

Heart-shaped engagement rings offer the most romantic possibilities for design. Let us, first of all, look at the possibilities for heart-shaped stones.

Pink Sapphire Heart Shape Rings

The above photograph shows a natural Pink Sapphire, cut into a heart shape. Combine the beauty of the heart shape, with the girlish quality of the colour pink. This combination makes a great alternative to a centre diamond.

Expect more of a subtle colour and a much higher cost with a pink diamond.

Natural pink diamonds are far more expensive than white diamonds. It will come as no surprise that rare natural fancy coloured diamonds demand much higher costs than white diamonds. As the intensity of colour increases so does the cost. Clarity is not such a consideration when it comes to naturally coloured diamonds.

Selecting a white heart-shaped diamond ring does not always ensure the same result. We take great care to select heart shape diamonds. Moreover, we look for a pleasing shape.

A clearly defined shape ensures the heart shape stands out. For this reason, smaller heart-shaped diamonds often appear lost within the setting. For smaller heart-shaped diamonds, choose the V claw to enhance the point of the stone and to help define the shape.

Heart Halo Engagement Rings

Halo rings make a very popular choice, with an expression of romance. An outer halo of diamonds can enhance the shape of a diamond. For example, the Eliza ring design shown here, appears in 18-carat yellow gold, styled with a central heart-shaped diamond.

The Heart Shaped Diamond Solitaire Ring

Single heart-shaped diamond rings remain the most popular way to showcase the heart-shaped diamond. We often say less is more. Our previous paragraph also referenced the V claw to enhance the diamond shape. Aphrodite, shown below, blends simple styling features to create the perfect setting for the heart-shaped brilliant-cut diamond.

Heart settings for engagement rings

Our Lila engagement ring features heart-shaped detail

Some of our ring styles feature heart details designed into the setting. As a result, the design provides a subtle romantic accent, less noticeable than a shaped diamond. For example, the Lila design above looks incredible with larger diamond sizes. (Available as a setting or a complete ring.)

Also, another beautiful design includes Odette, an engagement ring with a heart setting. This beautiful design appears below, crafted in luxurious rose gold, but can also be made in Platinum, white gold and yellow gold.

Diamond shoulders

As we have already seen, diamond shoulders provide a beautiful accent detail. Many of our bespoke ring designs feature a variety of different styles. An example below styles cross-over shoulders with a heart centre diamond.

Heart Rings with Cut-out Shoulders

At this point, we should refer to another unique design, crafted through our bespoke design service. The addition of two small cutout hearts provided a very subtle, yet unique feature to this elegant solitaire ring design. In addition, we added small accent diamonds each side of the ring in bezel settings.

Our final design adds similar heart detailing to the setting of an engagement ring in addition to the elongated heart cutouts in the shoulders of the same design.

Taken from our portfolio of bespoke ring styles, the ring below provided a new setting for our client’s own diamonds. The heavy build of the setting enabled defined hearts to be cut out of a cluster-style ring.
