Case Study: Creating a bespoke shaped diamond wedding ring for the Tiffany Ribbon engagement ring.
One of our recent commissions involved making a Platinum shaped diamond wedding ring designed to match the Tiffany Ribbon Ring.
Following the initial face-to-face consultation, I created a basic sketch to show how the proposed design might look alongside the engagement ring.
The sketch included important considerations – such as matching diamond sizes, setting styles and the tapering channel detail on each shoulder.
Why choose Serendipity over Tiffany?
Limitations existed with the suggested Tiffany wedding ring styles found online. A straight band simply would not work without leaving a noticeable gap between both rings. A solution was needed to work around the base of the setting. Our work includes the additional time and consideration required to build a custom-made ring – to ensure a solution is found for even the most challenging ring designs.
Creating the wax
The next step involved creating a wax model that would be used to cast the finished ring. Our model-maker carves a wax version of the wedding ring. This can be slightly broader to allow the final casting to be refined during mounting and setting. Photographs were taken and emailed to our client as the commission progressed towards casting the ring.
Matching the channels
The most important consideration besides the fit itself was matching the channel length and styling of each shoulder. You can see our wedding ring (above) and the original engagement ring (below) in the following image. The channel was grain set with diamonds matched to the colour and clarity of the original engagement ring.
