Firstly, we suggest looking at our related blog post about Cushion cut diamonds to explain a little more about this interesting diamond shape. Our article covers the basic stone shape by explaining the combined beauty of the Princess cut and Round Brilliant-cut diamond shapes. Most modern Cushion cut diamonds feature better symmetry and improved characteristics. For example, improved proportions and polish compared to antique versions of the cut. Older Cushions tended to be thicker with poorer symmetry.

Cushion cut ring styles.

Ring styles include various designs' classic single diamond (solitaire) ring designs. For example, setting styles include claw or prong designs. Or other styles surround the diamond with an edge of metal, also known as a bezel setting. Finally, we have Cushion-cut halo engagement rings with a frame of smaller round diamonds around the centre stone. We create the most designs in all precious metal choices. Firstly, Platinum—was chosen for its durability and uniform colour. In addition, we make rings in 18ct White Gold, 18ct Yellow Gold and 18ct Rose Gold. Finally, we make rings in 100% ethical Fairtrade Gold sourced from Artisanal mines in areas such as Sotrami, Peru.

The Origin of the Cushion cut diamond.

Modern cushion cut diamonds originate from antique Old Mine cut diamonds in the 1700s. Diamond polishers chose the Old Mine cut most to maximise the weight of the final polished diamond cut from the rough. The famous Hope diamond, visible at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, represents this style of diamond cut. The Hope diamond weighs 45 carats with a fancy dark greyish-blue colour, contrasting with a halo of 16 small white diamonds surrounding the stone.

Today, buyers benefit from more sparkle than the Old Mine cut with its 58 facets. Today's Cushion diamonds typically have 64 facets with outstanding beauty and brilliance.

Cushion cut halo engagement rings.

We create many of our cushion-cut halo ring styles with bespoke designs. As part of our work, we guide favourable ring styles to suit all diamond shapes. For example, the design featured in our video shows a double halo around a Cushion cut diamond. Notice how the double-tiered halo has the same cushion shape as the diamond to enhance the shape and style of the setting.

Another feature includes a wedding-ring-friendly setting to allow a wedding band to sit neatly alongside the finished ring.

Lab-grown cushion cut diamonds.

Recently, we introduced lab-grown diamonds into our collection. Almost all Cushion-cut lab-grown diamond engagement rings come through our bespoke design service. At the same time, we source and provide any size, cut and quality of a lab-created diamond. Some buyers favour lab-created diamonds to maximise the size of their diamond compared to a smaller equivalent natural diamond.
