0.80 Carat Diamond Engagement Rings

0.80cts Diamonds are popular for solitaire engagement rings because their size resembles the iconic 1-carat solitaire size. By comparison, 0.80-carat diamonds are less costly. This diamond size is substantial, without the high price tag of a diamond over 1 carat in weight. Below, we provide examples of both diamonds and engagement rings with guidance on different options for varying budgets.

Appreciating size

0.80ct diamonds vary in size depending on the cut and proportions applied to any given diamond. With this in mind, we apply a standard measurement to well-proportioned diamonds. For this reason, we work with diamonds graded no lower in their cut grade than "Very Good"

With this in mind, the following list reveals the typical measurement of popular 0.80-carat diamonds in a variety of different shapes and cutting styles. These include the popular round brilliant-cut diamond and Princess cut.

Example of an oval diamond engagement ring of the same carat weight, provided with GIA certification showing the carat weight.

0.80cts diamond measurements

The following sizes apply to diamonds with a weight of approx. 0.80 carats.

  • Round Brilliant Cut - 6.0mm
  • Princess Cut - 5.0mm with variations
  • Pear Shape - 8.0 x 5.0mm with variations
  • Oval - 7.0 x 5.0mm with variations
  • Marquise - 8.0 - 10.0 x 5.0mm with variations
  • Emerald Cut - 6.5 x 4.5mm with variations
  • Asscher / Square Emerald Cut - 5.0 x 5.0
  • Trilliant - 7.5 x 8.0mm with variations

Trilogy, halo and diamond cluster rings

Many ring designs achieve their carat weight across several diamonds set into the same ring. For example, a 0.8-carat diamond trilogy (or, three-stone ring) divides the weight evenly or unevenly between three diamonds. For example, a centre diamond 0.40-carats in weight, between two further diamonds weighing 0.20-carats each.

Adding to carat weight with the addition of shoulder diamonds

In the same way, a diamond halo ring might feature a 5.5mm 0.60-carat centre diamond surrounded by 0.20-carats of small diamonds to make up the additional weight. Spreading the carat weight across multiple diamonds can significantly reduce the overall cost of an engagement ring. Finally, the same might be true of a ring with diamond shoulders

The following video shows an example, set with a total carat weight of 0.80-carats.

0.80-carat lab-grown diamonds

This help article would not be complete without a mention of lab-grown diamonds. During 2022 we commenced the addition of lab-created diamonds into our expansive services. Lab diamonds provide an identical product, man-made instead of mined, with a price tag almost half that of a natural mined diamond. As a result, this service has grown in popularity for different ring styles.
