A Traditional Silver Locket for Two Photographs

Opening this oval silver locket reveals room for two photographs, one positioned within each half. Importantly, both sides retain removable internal frames that fit inside the locket to hold the photographs neatly in position.
At approximately 19mm high and 14mm wide, the locket is compact and refined rather than oversized. Its decorative exterior gives the piece considerably more character, with patterning across the front complemented by a textured finish on the reverse.

The K&L maker's mark connects this locket with Kordes & Lichtenfels, a German jewellery manufacturer established in 1884 in Pforzheim.
Pforzheim has a long association with jewellery and watchmaking and became internationally recognised as one of Germany's most important centres for jewellery production. Kordes & Lichtenfels developed a reputation for well-made jewellery, including Amerikaner rolled-gold pieces and finely constructed silver jewellery.
Of particular interest to collectors are the company's vintage silver lockets. K&L pieces can display the type of precise geometric patterning, engraving and decorative surface finishes that became characteristic of quality European jewellery manufacture during the 20th century.
