Antique Opal and Diamond Ring
We created the antique opal and diamond ring as part of a brand-new jewellery commission. Our brief involved the re-creation of an existing vintage opal and diamond ring design. For the new commission, we sourced a large cabochon oval opal, 3.32 carats in weight. Opals vary immensely in their size, shape, colour and variation of colours. For this reason, we sourced a large selection of gemstones for our clients to choose from. Cabochon gems provide a distinctive domed appearance. In this exceptional example, the colours varied from reds to greens.
For the diamonds, our client chose larger natural diamonds than the original ring. At the same time, the exceptional whiteness (D - E colour) of the diamonds provided an incredible contrast against both the 18-carat yellow gold setting and the opal.
As part of our work, we improved the build quality of the original ring with a substantial setting and band. In contrast, the original ring design is worn around the band of the ring. A heavier band ensured the ring would withstand any future re-size work to adjust the finger size.
